// Nachtwey @ TED 2007
This is quite old, but some folks (like me) eventually haven’t seen it yet. James Nachtwey talking at the TED Prize 2007:

Sometimes, I feel like that (Sorry for posting in German. Basically, it quotes Ansel Adams on the intellectual part in pictures and how it influences the image in beeing taken).
Just yesterday there was a Diploma/MA exhibition opening at the
FH Bielefeld. Of course, I went there. Something was weird, though. Often, I had a hard time getting into the works. When that was the case, it was like feeling stupid. Usually, you see an interestingly staged image with an extraordinary lack of understanding for it. Then, you read the artist statement thinking okay, got it. You will re-visit the picture and it starts all over again.
For me, as I study in that same place, it was kinda strange to find myself thinking like that. It’s contemporary art. It should be hard to understand. Right? Or what..?
I guess my reaction that day way caused by the enormous depth every student wanted to bring into his work — okay, standard. They spent a lot of time on this, researching stuff. But lately, I’m not sure if pictures really benefit from the extend they’re encrypted. The remaining access seems to be the intellectual one. Is that enough? I have to think about it.

Martin Fuchs is online again. Okay, maybe there are some people who don’t quite understand my euphoria over this. By the time he was a
Magnum intern, he used to share the interesting things he came across in NY — including nice
audio interviews for instance. Now, after having his blog offline for months (or even years?), he’s on again. Why?
He’s moving to NY for good. Will be interesting, indeed.
