Gladly, I’ve managed to scan some film material from the skatecontest in Paderborn. I’m kinda happy with the first results.

There is still more to come, so if you want you can have a look here now and then to check the current “scan status”…

Last weekend I had my first session supported by my USV. –> it works great. Okay, this beeping every 10 seconds is a little disturbing sometimes, but I use to leave it in a closed flightcase so it’s okay for me. Most of the time the flash was stepped down to 1/2 or 1/4 of it’s power (260 watts) and in the end I used the constant light for some minutes (it went dark and I wasn’t able to focus any more).

After making about 160 shots it had still three-quarters of it’s full power. That’s enough for my shooting style at the moment I’d say. Yipiie. The person on the pictures is Timecy - he’s a musician based in Paderborn.

Yesterday I went to a skatecontest - actually, my second try in skate-photography, but slowly I get used to it begin to like it. Tomorrow I’ll scan them in detail and I also have to develop two further rolls. I think there are some good shots on the way… :-)

Now and then I think it would have been nice if I had bought myself a camcorder in the past. Many of my pictures tend to look like they were out of a movie, so… I guess this is something like a sign. ;-)

This week I took my camera and went to “Libori” (which is a local fair here in Paderborn). While I was watching people passing by, I recognized this weird shop window. I’m still thinking about whether it’s funny or just sad.

These are some pictures out of my “movieframes” project I produced for my portfolio to apply at a university. Altough it didn’t lead to acceptation yet, I’d like to thank everyone who supported me with this.

Hm. This double exposure isn’t that bad, but I’d like to have the left one on it’s own. I should walk through Bielefeld at night (or any other bigger city) more often in order to receive more of this stuff. I hope, that getting used to my gentle Olympus Rangefinder more and more will help to get decent street shots. The fact that I finally own an external viewfinder helps a little - although this means that my shooting routine at the moment is something like this:

-seeing subject
-meterring or estimating the light
-setting aperture and shutter speed
-setting estimated distance on lens and, if subject is kinda close, on external viewfinder (it’s incline changes then)
-taking the picture

Hopefully this will happen quite fluently in the future, but right now, I still have to think about those things a bit too much. I guess - as always - only practice is the answer… ;-)

My first try within skateboard-photography. Somehow it wasn’t that easy to recognize that they come out better without a flash… ;-) To be continued.

Somehow I had a strong moment here…  Usually I wouldn’t take such a direct snapshot of such a big guy I’m not aware of. In a fight for the right on the picture I guess I would be in an inferior position. ;-) But this time I took it. And I am still alive. Jipiie…
