I need your voice. Just now I really wonder how many people are reading this blog at all… It would be cool if just say hello on this post if you use to visit protten.com now an then. Would be interesting to know. =)
Btw:
I just got a new
toy camera. It’s an EOS1 (film based) and I didn’t thought that it is SO huge and heavily, but I guess I’ll get used to it. Actually I still have to develop the first roll…
Lately I’ve been thinking about the way my pictures are presented and how (or if) I can learn from criticism I use to get online. I mean, it is nice to hear when someone likes a picture, but for me it doesn’t help that much. I just need more straight forward advice - but where can I get this? Offline? I’d like to.
It seems there’s only one way to get serious criticism: Study - whether it’s at college or during an apprenticeship. But the next half a year (until I can apply again) I have to work to make a living, so this is impractical at the moment. I feel like I have to talk with people face to face about my work (or theirs).
Maybe there’s also a place for this kind of stuff online, but I didn’t manage to find it yet. Trying to get everything right all by your own can be nice but I guess for me the time has come to get some professional advice. I just have to find it.
So as I am using a Macintosh since a few months, naturally I also discovered some of the disadvantages. One is this high cpu load when the Flash player (as a plug-in or stand alone) comes into play. That means you go on youtube and immediately the cpu gets kinda hot.
If you know this problem, then the 1.5 update of the
camino browser is maybe interesting for you, cos within the preferences you can make the Flash player stop loading all the time (If you click on a video it’ll run, of course). This means no more cpu trouble, but the result also is that you don’t see the video thumbnails any more. Well… I don’t know. For me, I’ll check myself if this annoys me more than having a fan running all the time.
e.
Nope, it doesn’t disturb me at all. Nice feature.
Okay. I was really struggling with myself whether I should post this or not, but what the hell. Nobody is getting everything right all the time so I guess it isn’t a shame to say that my appication at the Fachhochschule Bielefeld was denied. There was actually a very huge number of participants (about 250), but this isn’t supposed to be an excuse.
For me this was the first time that I’ve tried to do series or “stories”, so I think I’m kind of a noob when it comes to that. But don’t get me wrong… Although I see what I’ve (maybe) done wrong with this portfolio I still DO think that I’ve got photographic skills and it’s just a matter of experience in doing stories. The next half a year I’ll have enough time to do more - better - ones, travel more, meet people, etc… And maybe next time I’ll hand out an additional DVD with a soundslide or something like that.. This is not the end. :-)
Hi. Only wanted to report that after seeing a suberb picture in the current National Geographic magazine (India special) I did some research and got across some stunning work by the photographer Steve McCurrry. His photos are shown in great
slideshows. You may know some of his pictures…
