// Beauty in Journalism
Still kinda strange to see a documentary video on conflict in Afghanistan (here by an — I guess — embedded photographer named Danfung Dennis), which has a cinematic look to it with all this small depth of field and superb colors.

// Soup kitchen (start left)

Last winter I was shooting on a story for my reportage class in a soup kitchen here in Bielefeld. The topic we were given was called “Das Fest” (engl. “The celebration”). The confines were not too strict, so I decided to show the mini “Fest” the people over there have three times a week — especially when it’s cold outside and people only have a few bucks left in the pocket. Usually, thats at the end of the month. You can see the final selection when you click on the picture.

I just found the usb cable to connect my cellphone to my notebook so I transferred some snaps I did in 2007/08. I worked in a company that manufactures couches - totally in contrast to what I do now a few months later.

It was not a bad job, but I’m really glad I chose to go to a university to study photography. I really hope I don’t have to go back beeing only a little plant in a big random industry working on the assembly line or something like that. I guess that ain’t gonna happen… But you never now.

Although these are only bad cellphone pictures I like how they work together in this small story. They’re straight out of the cam.

These PS contact sheets look kinda fancy. Though, I’m not too sure about their benefit as I tend to make "normal" contacts (this already a selection of course).

I print the pictures out in 10×15 to make a final selection for he story. The filenames are on the back of the prints, too. So… well. But I have to admit they look cool. Hrhr. Would be interesting to hear from your workflow, too… ;)

Hello european guys. Finally, I’ve managed to edit all the stuff from the weekend. You can download the pictures here. They’re web sized only, so if you’d like to print them out just drop me a mail via Dr. Kurth or leave a comment here. You can also leave a comment whether you like them or not.
The weekend was - as expected - absolutely nice. It’s getting better every time I meet y’all. Really. It’s also… well.. a kick in my ass to get better with my english - which is a good thing of course. So, thanks for that, for having the opportunity to get known to all of you and to take pictures of you. : )

See you next year, I guess.

Since a few months I use to do something which I’ve never thought I’d do. I read the local news in the newspaper. The reason for that is my research for interesting topics for my new portfolio. Until now, I’m stuck. I don’t know if this has something to do with the fact that I’m still living in the countryside (nothings going on here) or.. well.. I don’t know. Time flies and I just have to find something interesting right now. If you have some advice… feel free to comment. : ) Anyway, I’ll keep you updated.
